Co-colonization by Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis
Staphylococcus aureus &Staphylococcus epidermidis are natural cutaneous bacteria playing an important role in the skin barrier homeostasis.
Staphylococcal dysbiosis is typically observed in the skin flora of patients with severe atopic dermatitis, showing a high relative abundance of S. aureus at the expense of S. epidermidis. Similar dysbiosis is also observed during topical co-infection of reconstructed epidermis.
To test the efficacy of dermo-cosmetic active ingredients to restore the staphylococcal balance, StratiCELL co-colonizes its reconstructed epidermis with the 2 strains in the presence of tetracycline that displays a specific dose effect on S. aureus growth reduction, allowing to restore the balance between S. aureus and S. epidermidis.
